Athens is the capital and largest city in Greece. As one of the world’s oldest cities spanning over 3,400 years, it is home to some of the world’s most cherished cultural artifacts and is an epicure’s nirvana!

It would be incredible to plan your visit to Athens during Spring when you can witness the festive
celebration of the Greek’s Independence Day on March 25th
.  At the same time, you can also experience the Holy Week during the Easter jamboree.

From ancient monuments including stunning ruins and medieval churches to world-class museums, Athens has something for every traveler including the art connoisseur, food lover and history enthusiast.

Want to enjoy a 360° panoramic view of Athens? Mount Lycabettus is the place to go!  The Chapel of St. George at Mount Lycabettus is also an important essence of Athens.

Of course, The Acropolis is not to be missed.  Here, you’ll learn about the Erechtheum, Propylaea and the Temple of Athena Nike.  One of the hotels I recommend has a perfect view of the Acropolis.  While staying at this hotel, I used to enjoy my breakfast every morning overlooking this beautiful masterpiece.

After learning about Athens’ history, switch gears and visit the Museum of Illusions. You can also explore further by visiting the stunning Stavros Niarchos Foundation Culture Center.

Be sure to explore and taste the traditional and delicious Greek cuisine! From moussaka, gyros and refreshing Greek salads, the food in Athens is sure to blow your mind!

Last but not least, it is definitely worth going to the flea market and Monastiraki. Not only can enjoy street performers and the neoclassical architecture, but you can also treat yourself to trinkets and souvenirs to bring home. Share these amazing goodies with your friends and family or keep them for yourself to remember your incredible trip to Athens!
