Highlights

When I first traveled to Santorini, it blew me away! This volcanic island is one that should be visited at least once in your lifetime. It offers a mythical experience of cliffs filled with white-washed Cycladic homes and memorable picture-perfect sunsets. Visit the black sand beach at Kamari and hike up Mesa Vouno where you’ll find Ancient Thira with spectacular views of the Aegean Sea and ruins from the Hellenistic period.

Take a day to explore the coastal towns starting from the bustling Fira through Imerovigli to Oia and end in the charming port of Amoudi Bay to witness a jaw-dropping sunset. On this path you’ll also pass the Prophet Elijah’s Church, the Chapel of the Cross and the Black Mountain. Visit Skaros Rock and make sure you stop by the castle including the blue-domed St. Gerasimos Church, which offers excellent views of the volcano. With a stunning backdrop and picturesque town surrounding you, I encourage you to dine alfresco to soak up all the sights.

To get a better glimpse of the frescos and other archaeological treasures from Ancient Akrotiri, be sure to visit the Museum of Prehistoric Thira.

Though France or Italy may be what you initially think of for wine destinations, Santorini has also been considered a premiere wine destination in Europe due to its uniqueness. Due to its soil being composed of volcanic sediment, the unique flavor of Santorini wine is something you won’t find elsewhere. Visit some of the famous wineries including Santo Wines in Pyrgos, Venetsanos Winery in Megalochori, and Domaine Sigalas in Oia or take a private wine tour with your own personal enologist. You can also enjoy the Wine Museum Koutso and Koutsogiannopoulos, found in Fira. Located in a cave, these museums showcase Santorini’s history as a wine producer and offer a tasting with bread and cheese.

Take a day to board a catamaran for an unforgettable trip around the caldera. Travel in style and cruise through the crystalline waters and experience the volcanic beauty of the Aegean Sea. Savor in a traditional Greek barbecue with an open bar on board. Feeling adventurous? Climb up the stairs to the island of Saint Nicholas in Amoudi bay for an amazing dive into the deep blue waters. End your day with a quiet and cozy night, by heading over to Skaros at Imerovigli, Kato Firaor or the lighthouse of Akrotiri for a sunset not to be missed!
