The natural and geological wealth of Costa Rica is not to be missed! The majestic Arenal Volcano, with its thermal waters rich in minerals, is a unique place to experience the serene setting of an unadulterated rainforest. Below, explore the country’s largest artificial lake, Lake Arenal, which is surrounded by mountains and beautiful greenery.

Other notable volcanoes in the country include the Poas Volcano, which has the world’s largest geyser crater, as well as the famous twin volcanoes, Irazu and Turrialba.

In March through October, head to the Tortuguero channels to visit the nesting place of the green sea turtle. While there you can also experience world-renowned bird watching with over 400 different species, some of which are unique to the region.

Feeling up to a cultural experience? How about trying the local cuisine and having a few drinks while dancing to local reggae music on the black volcanic sand of Cahuita beach.

Prefer to get wet? Surfers and snorkelers may choose to explore the seaside village Puerto Viejo of Talamanca, famous for the Salsa Brava break. You can also make your way to Guanacaste Beach which is known for the best watersports including snorkeling, diving, and sailing.

Trying to stay away from the busy crowds? Make your way to Osa Peninsula, Corcovado Nation Park and the Drake Bay where you can see the highest concentration of flora and fauna in the country. This biodiverse area is also known as the “open zoo” of Costa Rica.

While visiting Drake Bay and the Corcovado, you can stop at nearby attractions including Caño Island, the Térraba-Tiller and the Archaeological Museum of Stone Spheres, just to name a few.

Before heading home, be sure to make your way to Providence and San Gerardo de Dota, known for its superb coffee and beautiful scenery. Nearby, you’ll also find the Savegre River, recognized as the cleanest river in the Americas, and three stunning waterfalls.
