Situated in the Mediterranean Sea between Sicily and the North African coast, Malta is one of my favorite destinations (and somewhere I’d like to live one day)! It is known for its historic sites, numerous fortresses, megalithic temples and many more. Its Ancient buildings also make the perfect backdrop for many feature films and TV shows.  Malta is surely not to be missed!

Check out Valletta, the historical capital of Malta, Birgu, the boutique destination, Sliema for shopping and high-rises, and St. Julian’s for their incredible nightlife.

One of the most beautiful beaches in Malta is the Blue Lagoon on Comino Island. Its clear, cool and turquoise water is perfect for a splash! Comino is also an ideal place for walkers and photographers. The island is car-free and well worth the trip for a Mediterranean escape.

One of my favorite places in Malta is St. Julian’s. While there, stop by the Spinola Bay to see the fishing boats before enjoying the nightlife that St. Julian’s has to offer.

Right next to Spinola Bay is the Balluta Bay, where you can visit a magnificent cathedral.

Another beautiful sandy beach is located at Golden Bay.  The bay is also known for having the most stunning sunsets – you may even want to consider renting a private boat to enjoy the beauty of Malta as the sun sets upon it. Other beaches on the island include Santa Marija Bay and San Niklaw Bay.

You should also stop by Mdina where Game of Thrones was filmed.

If you are bringing your children with you, make sure to stop by the Popeye Village where the movie Popeye was filmed. While there, they can play a game of mini golf and talk to some Popeye characters.

Though there are a lot of great Italian restaurants in Malta due to its close proximity to Sicily, Maltese food is rustic. Make sure you try their traditional Lampuki Pie, Rabbit Stew, Bragioli, Kapunata, widow’s soup and a round of Gbejniet.

Towards the end of your trip, consider hopping on the ferry to continue your adventure and experience the beauty of Sicily, Italy.
